about
Been thinking about the city a lot lately. I’m sure you have too. It’s been like a second home to me. My Dad’s from there. Many friends and family. The backdrop to many of my significant life experiences. When Wires On Fire would embark on our juggernaut DIY tours in the early aughts, it always felt like just as we were about to collectively snap and tear each others heads off, we’d pull in through the Holland Tunnel and somehow become immediately revitalized. When I joined GIRLS in 2011 we played 2 sold out shows at Bowery Ballroom on my first tour, it was like a dream come true.
The song’s a romantic, nostalgic trip… a tribute to both my personal and fantasized history of the city. I wrote and recorded it as a love-letter to NYC well before the virus hit, but it means more to me now. I hope it reminds you of your relationship with NYC too.
I'll be donating and matching all proceeds from the sale of this song to the NYC Covid-19 Response & Impact Fund.
